Weekend: It's time to get rowing

It's boating season! Area residents and area guests are invited to take a canoe, kayak or pedal boat ride at the Hancock Park District's Zonta Landing Boat Rental concession in Findlay's historic Riverside Park waterfront as it opens for the 2013 boating season on Saturday, May 25. During the holiday weekend, the concession will observe normal hours of operations through Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Renters can tour "Down by the Old Mill Stream" to see wildflowers and wildlife along the banks of the Blanchard River.

UP: The Courier's View on Wednesday applauded U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown for sponsoring an amendment to the Water Resources Development Act that should help keep the area's flood-control project moving along. But the editorial failed to note that Sen. Rob Portman co-sponsored the important amendment, which was passed late Tuesday, and that he has lobbied on behalf of the project in Washington. We also know our U.S. representatives, especially Rep. Bob Latta, have backed our flood-control efforts. All the support and a unified bipartisan push will continue to be needed as the project moves forward.
