Police Department

A McConnell Street resident said Friday she received a scam e-mail, wanting her to send a $225 "deposit" to gain $800,000 in lottery winnings.

Golf clubs were missing Wednesday from a garage at 1321 Hurd Ave.

A Findlay woman on Friday said an acquaintance entered her residence and attempted to have unwanted sexual contact with her. The male was taken into custody under a warrant, and given both a trespass warning and a telephone harassment warning.

A besotted person was cited Friday for disorderly conduct, risk to self, after staggering in the 300 block of West Melrose Avenue.

A driver in a Ford pickup truck illegally passed a stopped school bus Friday on Balsley Avenue.

Two women were nabbed for shoplifting books, clothes and other items Friday at the Trenton Avenue Walmart.

An intoxicated man, passed out in a parking lot at 2033 Tiffin Ave., was arrested Friday for disorderly conduct, risk to self.

A male took an old washing machine and dishwasher without permission from a property at 604 Davis St. This was reported Friday.

Two people were cited for having marijuana, following a Saturday traffic stop in the 900 block of North Main Street.

An intoxicated male was cited Saturday for underage consumption of beer on Clinton Court.

A man who claimed to have snorted a cat tranquilizer at a Bigelow Avenue locale was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital on Saturday.

Two people were charged with assault following a Saturday scuffle at 232 Tioga Ave. In addition, two males were cited for obstructing official business; one man, 18, was ticketed for underage consumption of alcohol; and one suspect was arrested for trespassing in a police cruiser.

Rooms were ransacked after a break-in Saturday at Wilson Vance School.

A pair of UGG boots were taken from under a bench Saturday at the Cube, 3430 N. Main St.

A person was arrested for stealing a Dodge Ram from 344 Midland Ave. on Saturday.

A domestic dispute occurred at a College Street address Saturday.

Police investigated a Saturday assault at 305 Coventry Drive.

A large fight involving people with pool cues was reported Sunday at Nikki's Bar, 139 N. Main St.

A Foraker Avenue woman was jailed for domestic violence after punching her boyfriend Sunday.

Sheriff's Office

A rural Forest man was charged Saturday with domestic violence after striking his wife, who was treated at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

A domestic squabble was reported Thursday at a Jadlos Drive residence.

Three people were expected to receive trespass warnings after assaulting the owner of Owlsburg Bar, Hancock County 304, outside the establishment earlier this month.

A woman said a male may have slipped some drug into her drink March 1 at a Hancock County bar.

News Briefs Firefighters discover 20 marijuana plants in house
After fighting a house fire early Monday at 815 Howard St., firefighters found 20 marijuana plants in the residence.

"They ran across it and called us," said police Sgt. Justin Hendren with the Hancock County METRICH Drug Enforcement Unit.

Police seized all 20 plants, and Hendren said charges are pending.

High-powered growing lights, fans, and a box filled with dried marijuana were also found in the house, according to a police report.

Investigators said an electrical short started the fire before 3 a.m. Monday.

The blaze caused an estimated $12,000 in damage to the residence, owned by Amanda Crawford. No one was injured, according to the Findlay Fire Department.


Carey announces holiday closing
CAREY -- Carey offices, including administrative, income tax and utilities, electric, wastewater treatment plant, and public works, will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The curbside recycling program will be held Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 7-9.


Findlay trooper named sergeant
Trooper Jacob L. Fletcher, assigned to the Findlay post of the State Highway Patrol, was promoted to sergeant Wednesday by Patrol Superintendent Col. David Dicken.

With the promotion, Fletcher will stay at the Findlay post and serve as an assistant post commander, according to the patrol.

Fletcher began his patrol career in 2002 after graduating from the 139th Academy class and has been assigned to the Findlay post since.


Owens announces holiday schedule
The Toledo and Findlay campuses of Owens Community College will be closed Saturday through Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

There will be no classes and the college offices will be closed.

Classes will resume and offices will open again on Tuesday.


Holiday changes ad deadlines
The Courier won't be published on Monday, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Because of the holiday, some advertising deadlines have been moved up this week:

Black and white display advertising for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by noon Friday. Display advertising for Wednesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Color display advertising for the Thursday, Sept. 9 newspaper must be placed by Friday.

Classified advertising and City and Country advertising for Saturday's newspaper must be placed by 2 p.m. Friday. Classified ads for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Courier business and advertising offices will close at 3 p.m. Friday for the holiday.
