Police Department

Four partygoers, ages 18 and 19, were charged with underage possession of beer Friday after police responded to a loud party at 110 Fair St.

A Findlay woman was facing an allegation of leaving two small children -- 19 months and age 2 -- unattended outside a Tiffin Avenue residence Friday.

A male, wanted under area warrants, ran from Kohl's, 2310 Tiffin Ave., without paying for shoes, but dropped the items during a foot chase Friday.

Two females were nabbed Friday for shoplifting clothes from TJ Maxx, 1800 Tiffin Ave.

A purse was filched from a shopping cart at the Trenton Avenue Walmart on Friday.

A Buick stolen from Wood County was found on Filmore Street on Friday.

A Friday assault was investigated at the Cube, 3430 N. Main St.

An intoxicated man was cited Saturday for napping in a parking lot in the 100 block of East Front Street.

An inebriated male was taken into custody for domestic violence after fighting with his wife in the 100 block of North Main Street on Saturday.

A besotted man was arrested Saturday after threatening to beat up his friends in the 2000 block of Tiffin Avenue.

A "very drunk" Clinton Street male was charged after hitting a family member Saturday.

A male, in custody by the state patrol for drunken driving, took an acquaintance's Dodge Stratus from 2411 Jennifer Lane without permission Saturday

An unlawful entry was investigated Saturday at 127 Larkins St.

Someone with a permanent marker made pornographic drawings on a garage door at 2760 Kellybrooke Court recently.

A window was shattered on a Toyota Sienna on Saturday at 325 Defiance Ave.

Someone attempted to remove a battery from a Chevy truck Saturday at 130 Stadium Drive.

Ice cream treats were taken from a concession building Saturday at Lakeview Pool and Tennis Club, 15701 Lakeview Parkway.

A political sign was damaged at 328 Oakland Ave. on Saturday.

A security light was damaged Saturday at 507 Hillcrest Ave.

A customer gave a bogus $10 bill to Wolfies Nuts, 340 Glessner Ave., on Saturday.

A Saturday skirmish was reported at 410 N. Cory St.

Domestic disputes occurred inside homes on Monroe Avenue and Kirkwood Court last weekend.

A tire was punctured on a Mitsubishi Eclipse on Sunday outside 401 W. Melrose Ave.

Two rifles were swiped Sunday from a garage at 603 W. Sandusky St.

A drunken man passed out in a parking lot Sunday at 2727 N. Main St. told police he thought he was in Napoleon.

Sheriff's Office

A Dunkirk man was questioned Thursday after attempting to fraudulently obtain pain medication from the Arlington Pharmacy.

Old fencing was dumped outside 1340 W. Trenton Ave. This was reported Saturday

A Fostoria couple was admonished Friday after driving an ATV on Washington Township 218 near Ohio 12.

News Briefs Firefighters discover 20 marijuana plants in house
After fighting a house fire early Monday at 815 Howard St., firefighters found 20 marijuana plants in the residence.

"They ran across it and called us," said police Sgt. Justin Hendren with the Hancock County METRICH Drug Enforcement Unit.

Police seized all 20 plants, and Hendren said charges are pending.

High-powered growing lights, fans, and a box filled with dried marijuana were also found in the house, according to a police report.

Investigators said an electrical short started the fire before 3 a.m. Monday.

The blaze caused an estimated $12,000 in damage to the residence, owned by Amanda Crawford. No one was injured, according to the Findlay Fire Department.


Carey announces holiday closing
CAREY -- Carey offices, including administrative, income tax and utilities, electric, wastewater treatment plant, and public works, will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The curbside recycling program will be held Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 7-9.


Findlay trooper named sergeant
Trooper Jacob L. Fletcher, assigned to the Findlay post of the State Highway Patrol, was promoted to sergeant Wednesday by Patrol Superintendent Col. David Dicken.

With the promotion, Fletcher will stay at the Findlay post and serve as an assistant post commander, according to the patrol.

Fletcher began his patrol career in 2002 after graduating from the 139th Academy class and has been assigned to the Findlay post since.


Owens announces holiday schedule
The Toledo and Findlay campuses of Owens Community College will be closed Saturday through Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

There will be no classes and the college offices will be closed.

Classes will resume and offices will open again on Tuesday.


Holiday changes ad deadlines
The Courier won't be published on Monday, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Because of the holiday, some advertising deadlines have been moved up this week:

Black and white display advertising for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by noon Friday. Display advertising for Wednesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Color display advertising for the Thursday, Sept. 9 newspaper must be placed by Friday.

Classified advertising and City and Country advertising for Saturday's newspaper must be placed by 2 p.m. Friday. Classified ads for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Courier business and advertising offices will close at 3 p.m. Friday for the holiday.
