Police Department

A window was found broken Tuesday on a boathouse at Riverside Park.

A domestic dispute occurred at a Midland Avenue residence Tuesday.

A youth was seen swiping a bicycle from a garage Wednesday at 154 Laquineo St.

Authorities investigated a report of a toddler on the roof of a porch at a South Blanchard Street household Wednesday.

A person was detained Wednesday after shoplifting gel, toothpaste and air freshener from the Trenton Avenue Walmart.

A motorist was taken into custody Thursday for driving while impaired after weaving on South Blanchard Street.

Sheriff's Office

A suspicious male arrived at a Madison Township 149 household Wednesday and purportedly tried to sell a resident a package for upgrading a satellite TV service.

Courthouse

From the public records of Hancock County Common Pleas Court:

Daniel V. Aldridge, 42, of Findlay, was sentenced to a five-year community control sanction Thursday by Judge Joseph Niemeyer for domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony. Niemeyer reserved 18 months in prison for Aldridge if he violates community control. Aldridge was indicted on a third-degree felony charge for causing harm to a family member on Dec. 6 in Marion Township, but accepted a plea deal lessening the charge.

Bobbie A. Breitigam, 46, of Findlay, was sentenced to 18 months in prison Thursday by Niemeyer after she was found in violation of her community control sanction. Breitigam picked up new misdemeanor charges while on community control, according to County Assistant Prosecutor Drew Wortman. She was originally sentenced to a five-year community control sanction in 2007 by Niemeyer for trafficking in cocaine, a fourth-degree felony.

Giuseppe B. Santarossa, 44, of Findlay, was sentenced to a five-year community control sanction Thursday by Niemeyer for two counts of trafficking in cocaine, both fourth-degree felonies. Niemeyer reserved three months in prison for him if he violates community control, and ordered him to pay $600 restitution to the Hancock County Drug Task Force, METRICH Enforcement Unit. On two occasions in February 2007, he sold less than five grams of crack cocaine in Findlay, according to his indictment.

Elizabeth S. Paris, 29, of Findlay, pleaded guilty Thursday to theft, a first-degree misdemeanor. She was indicted for forgery, a fifth-degree felony, but accepted a plea deal lessening the charge. The offense involves a $250 check used by Paris from another person's account.

Coroner Rulings

The following death rulings were issued by Hancock County Coroner Dr. Mark Fox:

Evelyn Tooke, 95, of Fostoria, died May 28. Cause of death: acute myocardial infarction secondary to underlying coronary artery disease. Stressed by recent fall fracture and surgical repair of her left hip. Final ruling: accidental.

Martha Noggle, 87, of Fostoria, died May 24. Cause of death: atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease secondary to complications of thoracentesis. Final ruling: accidental.

News Briefs Firefighters discover 20 marijuana plants in house
After fighting a house fire early Monday at 815 Howard St., firefighters found 20 marijuana plants in the residence.

"They ran across it and called us," said police Sgt. Justin Hendren with the Hancock County METRICH Drug Enforcement Unit.

Police seized all 20 plants, and Hendren said charges are pending.

High-powered growing lights, fans, and a box filled with dried marijuana were also found in the house, according to a police report.

Investigators said an electrical short started the fire before 3 a.m. Monday.

The blaze caused an estimated $12,000 in damage to the residence, owned by Amanda Crawford. No one was injured, according to the Findlay Fire Department.


Carey announces holiday closing
CAREY -- Carey offices, including administrative, income tax and utilities, electric, wastewater treatment plant, and public works, will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The curbside recycling program will be held Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 7-9.


Findlay trooper named sergeant
Trooper Jacob L. Fletcher, assigned to the Findlay post of the State Highway Patrol, was promoted to sergeant Wednesday by Patrol Superintendent Col. David Dicken.

With the promotion, Fletcher will stay at the Findlay post and serve as an assistant post commander, according to the patrol.

Fletcher began his patrol career in 2002 after graduating from the 139th Academy class and has been assigned to the Findlay post since.


Owens announces holiday schedule
The Toledo and Findlay campuses of Owens Community College will be closed Saturday through Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

There will be no classes and the college offices will be closed.

Classes will resume and offices will open again on Tuesday.


Holiday changes ad deadlines
The Courier won't be published on Monday, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Because of the holiday, some advertising deadlines have been moved up this week:

Black and white display advertising for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by noon Friday. Display advertising for Wednesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Color display advertising for the Thursday, Sept. 9 newspaper must be placed by Friday.

Classified advertising and City and Country advertising for Saturday's newspaper must be placed by 2 p.m. Friday. Classified ads for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Courier business and advertising offices will close at 3 p.m. Friday for the holiday.
