Police Department

Two women, both 19, were cited for having beer in a Mercury parked at 1925 Tiffin Ave. on Friday.

A Tara Oaks Drive resident said Friday someone used her credit card to obtain two airplane tickets.

A man with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.237 was arrested for driving while under the influence and having a suspended license following a disturbance in a drive-through of a Fostoria Avenue eatery Friday. He has had five drunken driving convictions in 20 years.

A male was given a trespass warning Friday for Fifth Third Bank, 300 E. Sandusky St., after causing a commotion when the ATM machine kept his card after he used many different numbers to access his account because he couldn't recall his PIN.

A pocket book was pilfered Friday from 431 Fifth St.

A driver in a van departed Gas America, 1133 W. Main Cross St., without paying for $60 worth of fuel Friday.

Domestic discords were reported Saturday on Fostoria, Bernard and Hobart avenues.

A mirror was broken off Saturday on a Chevy pickup outside 2236 Heatherwood Drive.

A wallet was lifted from an auto outside 2515 N. Main St. on Saturday.

An assault charge was considered Saturday after a person pepper-sprayed another male during a dispute in the 100 block of Walnut Street.

A male said he was propositioned for sexual favors by a man Saturday in a Ford off Wilson Street.

A South Main Street woman was incarcerated for domestic violence after fighting with her boyfriend Saturday.

An employee at the Olive Garden, 15115 East U.S. 224, said her wallet was snatched Saturday from a break room.

A male was in custody Sunday after marijuana and drug pipes were found inside a Honda in a parking lot at 1851 Tiffin Ave.

A man earned a trespass warning after a Sunday scuffle at Nicki's Bar, 139 N. Main St.

A person was taken to jail under a warrant after police investigated a Sunday disturbance outside 2607 Beecher St.

A male said Sunday he was punched by another man in the 500 block of South Main Street.

A Tiffin Avenue woman said Sunday someone used her debit credit card without consent to buy two concert tickets via the Internet.

A Ford Focus was taken without permission from 417 Walnut St. on Sunday.

Sheriff's Office

A Findlay man was cited Sunday for failing to control his Saturn, which slid into a ditch off Biglick Township 251 north of Hancock County 7.

Coins were filched Friday from a Chevy at 300 N. Main St., Arcadia.

A GPS unit and purse were pulled from two vehicles at 203 Jefferson St., Arcadia, on Friday.

A home generator was removed June 21 from 3874 Hancock County 220. The person who filed the complaint was found wanted under a bench warrant.

A motorist did "donuts" in a lawn Tuesday at 5926 Pleasant Township 123, McComb.

A break-in was reported Wednesday at 218 N. Main St., Rawson.

Two rural Findlay juveniles and a rural Findlay man were questioned Tuesday about possessing counterfeit controlled substances after marijuana and suspected LSD papers were found in a van off Colonel Drive.

A house at 103 N. Scott St., Arcadia, was egged Saturday.

"Antique" Beanie Babies were taken Saturday from 296 Ohio 613, McComb. Four males in a tan minivan were seen leaving that address.

A mailbox was damaged Saturday at 3505 Pleasant Township 117, McComb.

A boat and trailer stolen from 416 East St., Vanlue, were located June 26 in Wyandot County.

A domestic squabble was reported June 27 in a Cooper Street house in McComb.

News Briefs Firefighters discover 20 marijuana plants in house
After fighting a house fire early Monday at 815 Howard St., firefighters found 20 marijuana plants in the residence.

"They ran across it and called us," said police Sgt. Justin Hendren with the Hancock County METRICH Drug Enforcement Unit.

Police seized all 20 plants, and Hendren said charges are pending.

High-powered growing lights, fans, and a box filled with dried marijuana were also found in the house, according to a police report.

Investigators said an electrical short started the fire before 3 a.m. Monday.

The blaze caused an estimated $12,000 in damage to the residence, owned by Amanda Crawford. No one was injured, according to the Findlay Fire Department.


Carey announces holiday closing
CAREY -- Carey offices, including administrative, income tax and utilities, electric, wastewater treatment plant, and public works, will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The curbside recycling program will be held Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 7-9.


Findlay trooper named sergeant
Trooper Jacob L. Fletcher, assigned to the Findlay post of the State Highway Patrol, was promoted to sergeant Wednesday by Patrol Superintendent Col. David Dicken.

With the promotion, Fletcher will stay at the Findlay post and serve as an assistant post commander, according to the patrol.

Fletcher began his patrol career in 2002 after graduating from the 139th Academy class and has been assigned to the Findlay post since.


Owens announces holiday schedule
The Toledo and Findlay campuses of Owens Community College will be closed Saturday through Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

There will be no classes and the college offices will be closed.

Classes will resume and offices will open again on Tuesday.


Holiday changes ad deadlines
The Courier won't be published on Monday, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Because of the holiday, some advertising deadlines have been moved up this week:

Black and white display advertising for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by noon Friday. Display advertising for Wednesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Color display advertising for the Thursday, Sept. 9 newspaper must be placed by Friday.

Classified advertising and City and Country advertising for Saturday's newspaper must be placed by 2 p.m. Friday. Classified ads for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Courier business and advertising offices will close at 3 p.m. Friday for the holiday.
