Girls basketball: Heacock leads Red Devils past USV

MCGUFFEY -- Mackenzie Heacock and Amelia Recker each had huge games offensively and Arlington upended Upper Scioto Valley 71-45 Tuesday in a girls non-conference matchup.

Heacock scored 21 points to lead Arlington (11-2), which has won nine consecutive games. She added five steals.

Recker had a solid performance with 20 points and seven rebounds. Tina Brunswick added eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

Katie Hicks led the charge for the Rams (7-5) with 13 points.

MILLER CITY 66

MCCOMB 56

MCCOMB -- Miller City hit most of its shots from inside the arc and controlled the boards Tuesday night as the Wildcats upset McComb 66-56 in non-conference girls basketball action.

Miller City (3-11), which has won two straight games against Blanchard Valley Conference opponents, outrebounded McComb (6-6) 40-23 in the win.

Jessica Nienberg controlled the game from the point with 18 points and eight assists. Melissa Michel was also a driving force behind the Miller City win with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Jessica Michel had 11 points and Jessica Leis nine rebounds.

Shelby Wilson played a solid game for McComb, which had won three of four coming in. Wilson nearly achieved a quadruple-double with a team-high 15 points, nine steals, eight assists and eight rebounds.

Hannah Bundy (14 points) and Becca Leppelmeier (10) also reached double figures for McComb.

BASCOM -- The Fostoria girls basketball team eked out a 40-39 win over Hopewell-Loudon in a game both teams had a chance to win in the final seconds Tuesday night.

Fostoria's Aja Hall, who finished with 22 points and 13 rebounds, missed the front end of a one-and-one with 13 seconds left that could have helped ice the game for the Redmen (4-9).

Hopewell-Loudon's Brittany Egbert, who had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, had a chance to give the Chieftains (9-3) the lead with 10 seconds left but missed her one-and-one try.

Both teams then turned the ball over in the final 10 seconds allowing the Redmen to chalk up the win.

Hopewell-Loudon's Adrienne Hohman reached double figures with 10 points.

CAREY -- Lauren Jacoby's 15 points weren't enough to lift Carey past undefeated Wynford in a 52-27 non-conference loss Tuesday night.

In the first three quarters, Wynford (13-0) outscored Carey 45-18. The Blue Devils were unable to score in double figures in all four quarters of play.

To go along with her team-high 15 points, Jacoby also contributed eight rebounds for Carey (7-6).Leah Ritter had 11 rebounds.

Teniel Krebs led Wynford with 14 points.

FOSTORIA -- Fostoria St. Wendelin blitzed Old Fort 28-10 in the first quarter and notched a 61-36 girls Midland Athletic League win over Old Fort on Tuesday.

With the win, the Mohawks (9-2, 5-1 MAL) have won four straight and are only a half game behind league leader New Riegel.

Lauren Geroski, currently second in the MAL in scoring, led St. Wendelin with a game-high 16 points. Clare Berry also hit double digits with 12 points to go along with five steals.

Brittany Adelsperger led Old Fort (1-11, 1-5) with 11 points.
