Road construction report released

The following are state Department of Transportation highway projects in The Courier circulation area for this week.

A weekly construction and maintenance report also is available at the Buckeye Traffic Web site at www.buckeyetraffic.org.

Hancock County

Ohio 235 between Hancock 313 and U.S. 224 -- Tarring and chipping of the roadway will be done with traffic maintained through the work zone.

U.S. 68 from the Interstate 75 interchange to south of the Findlay airport -- Repair of the median barrier wall continues and will last until late August. Traffic will be restricted to one lane through the work zone.

The entrance ramp from northbound U.S. 68 to southbound Interstate 75 is closed through late September, Monday through Thursday, and will open for the weekends.

Ohio 568 at Hancock 236, eastern edge of Findlay -- Intersection upgrade will begin Wednesday. Road will be closed later in the project for two weeks.

Ohio 568, East Sandusky Street, over Eagle Creek -- Traffic will be maintained during bridge and sidewalk repair which will begin during the week.

Ohio 37, East Lincoln Street, from South Main Street to Blanchard Street -- Road is closed to through traffic until mid-November for road reconstruction and storm sewer project.

U.S. 68 at Hancock 304, former U.S. 30, Williamstown -- Road is open. Work will continue to create a direct intersection between County Road 304 and U.S. 68 with little impact to traffic. Work will continue until fall.

Closures on Hancock 304:

• Between Madison Township Road 176 and Madison Township Road 69 -- Road is closed for the summer for removal of the westbound lanes and embankment in preparation for creation of a direct intersection between Hancock 304 and U.S. 68. There is no access to or from U.S. 68 and County Road 304 until October.

Ohio 37 between Ohio 15 and Ohio 103, south edge of Mount Blanchard -- Pavement repair and paving project has begun with traffic reduced to one lane through the work zone.

Allen County

Interstate 75 from Ohio 81 to Beaverdam -- Pavement upgrade is reducing traffic to one lane through the work zone. Work will be done from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. through Thursday. The project will be done in October.

Interstate 75 northbound at Bentley Road -- Ramp repair will restrict traffic on the ramp. Traffic will be maintained through the work zone.

Hardin County

Ohio 37 throughout the county, Ohio 53 from Kenton to Forest -- Pavement repair and installation of handicapped ramps in Forest will begin during the week in preparation for paving, which will be done after Labor Day. Work will continue through late September.

Ohio 309, Ohio 67, U.S. 68, Ohio 53 and Ohio 31 in Kenton -- Traffic will be maintained during pavement repair and resurfacing which will be done by the end of the week.

Putnam County

Ohio 115 north of Kalida -- Roadside work will reduce traffic to one lane through the work zone.

Ohio 189 between Jennings Township 21 and Jennings Township Road 205 -- Roadside work will continue to reduce traffic to one lane through the work zone.

Ohio 634 north of Cloverdale -- Road is closed until fall to repair a culvert washout and raise the road to eliminate a flood area.

Wyandot County

U.S. 23 from Wyandot 62 to south of Wyandot 330, south of Upper Sandusky -- Pavement upgrade project will continue until late September. Lane restrictions will occur during the project.

LITTLE ROCK NINE: Jefferson Thomas, who was among nine black students initially barred by the Arkansas governor from attending Little Rock Central High School in 1957, spoke to Findlay students as part of Black History Month. The crisis was a pivotal moment in the struggle for civil rights.

News Briefs D.C. trip delayed
A trip to Washington, D.C. that Findlay and Ottawa officials were planning to make this week has been postponed because of the inclement weather.

Findlay Mayor Pete Sehnert said officials have rescheduled the trip for Feb. 23 to meet with a lobbying group and congressional representatives regarding federal spending on flood control projects.


Fostoria requires clearing sidewalks
FOSTORIA -- Fostoria residents are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks within 12 hours of a storm, according to police Capt. Patrick Brooks.

The city code covers residential owners or tenants, and business owners of properties which abut a sidewalk.

An offense is a minor misdemeanor, with a fine of up to $100. Each day constitutes a separate offense.


Library in Forest reschedules event
FOREST -- Because of the expected inclement weather, the Forest-Jackson Public Library has rescheduled its Valentine luncheon planned for Thursday to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18.

Reservations are required. Anyone with questions can call the library at 419-273-2400.


Disc golf tourney set for Saturday
The Ray Heverling Charity Ice Bowl Tournament has been rescheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Riverbend Recreation Area, off Ohio 568 east of Findlay.

Registration begins at noon.

The tournament was canceled last Saturday because of a snowstorm.

The Disc Golf Community Association, in cooperation with the Hancock Park District, sponsors the event. Proceeds go to the Family Center of Findlay-Hancock County.

Housing Authority meeting postponed
Because of an expected winter storm this week, the Hancock Metropolitan Housing Authority has canceled its regular board meeting scheduled for Thursday. It will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 at the Family Center.


Fostoria library to close Monday
FOSTORIA -- Kaubisch Memorial Public Library will be closed Monday, Feb. 15, in observance of Presidents Day.


Crime Of The Week
Findlay/Hancock County Crime Stoppers is looking for information about a break-in at the Arlington Pharmacy, 200 Main St., at 12:51 a.m. Dec. 28.

A glass pane in the front door of the business was shattered, and entry was made. Once inside, the perpetrators took prescription medications and fled on foot.

Two white males were seen running from the business. The males were possibly in their late teens to early 20s, and possibly entered a vehicle.

People with information about this or any other crime that would lead to an arrest or indictment will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

Crime Stoppers can be called weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 419-425-TIPS or 419-425-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
