Superintendent to retire
By ERIC SCHAADT

Staff Writer

NORTH BALTIMORE -- Kyle Clark will step down as superintendent of North Baltimore schools, effective Dec. 31.

Clark told the North Baltimore school board Tuesday he intends to retire.

"This is the right time for me to retire," said Clark, who is in his seventh year as superintendent.

Board President Jake Trevino, who said he has not always seen "eye to eye" with Clark, said he eventually gained "total respect" for the superintendent.

This year saw a successful passage of a tax issue to build a new high school and renovate a grade school.

"There are a lot of bright things coming" to the community, board member Holli Gray-DuVall told Clark. "You have done a lot of hard work."

Athletic Director Brad Rowlinson also announced he will relinquish that role at the end of this academic year.

He will remain as a district math teacher while pursuing a master's degree, school officials said.

"I'm thankful, Brad, for everything you've done," high school Principal Robert Falkenstein told Rowlinson.

Josh Stuftt was promoted to head wrestling coach, replacing John DuVall.

Stuftt was an assistant with the wrestling program.

DuVall was fired in August after being charged with misdemeanor offenses, inducing panic and menacing following a July disturbance at his home with his estranged wife, board member Gray-DuVall, and high school students who were helping her move from the couple's home.

Separately, free H1N1 vaccine shots will be offered to the North Baltimore community from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 in the main school building's gym.

Vaccines will be provided by the Wood County Health Department.

In other business, the board:

• Held a pair of closed executive sessions for the stated purposes of discussing personnel and property matters.

• Received a certificate of commendation from the State Board of Education recognizing the North Baltimore school district for achieving the "excellent" designation for its report card from the 2008-09 school year.

Not a good time
“ From a selfish standpoint, this is not a good time for the supt. to retire. We are in the middle of planning a new building. I hope that things are okay with Mr. Clark and his family! Good Luck and Best Wishes to them!

AND Good Luck and Best Wishes to our School Board in finding a new supt. We will need someone who has the experience to help us through the planning and building phase. Then, as well as the part where staff, teachers and students move into the new school and make it an effective facility for learning!!!

This makes the vote for school board members even more important!!! Sure wish I knew where these candidates stood on issues!!! Where and when is the candidates forum in NB???

The recount will be completed on Wednesday at the county elections board office, 336 E. Main Street, Ottawa.

Incumbent Daniel R. Ellerbrock has secured his position on the board, earning 685 votes. However the remaining trustee spot will require a recount as Gery P. Wurth earned 598 votes and Mark J. Kahle collected 601 votes, according to official results.

An automatic recount is necessary if the margin is within one-half of 1 percent of total votes cast, according to state law.
