Prep Girls Tennis: Findlay's Gray & Wurm are second
ADA -- Findlay High freshman Meghan Gray and senior Kelsi Wurm teamed up for a second-place finish in doubles Saturday in the Division I sectional girls tennis tournament at Ohio Northern.
The top four singles players and doubles teams at Ohio Northern qualified for Thursday's Division I district tournament at Sandusky.
Gray and Wurm dominated their semifinal match by whipping Wapakoneta's Ricki Oen and Makenzie Klock 6-0, 6-2. The pair then fell 6-4, 6-2 in the final to top-seeded Maureen McCormick and Kendall Krieg of Anthony Wayne.
Junior Lindsey Barlett advanced in singles play by finishing third.
Barlett dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to top-seeded Beth Vickio in the semifinals. She outlasted Marion Harding's Allison James 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 to claim third place.
One area doubles team was able to advance at the Division II sectional at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima.
Bluffton's Kelsey Kiene and Ashlynn Gable beat Celina's Katie Pyle and Brianna Beougher 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinal, but fell 6-0, 6-1 decision to Lima Bath's Emily Ruhe and Muriel Smith in the championship match.
Kiene and Gable will play in the Division II district at Port Clinton on Thursday.
