Christmas in Carey celebration Friday
Hardin County Fair - Kenton, Ohio
CAREY -- The annual Christmas in Carey celebration, sponsored by the Carey Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday throughout downtown.

Activities will include children's craft tables, seasonal music, visits with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, a bake sale, refreshments provided by downtown businesses, horse and wagon rides, and lighting of the community Christmas tree.

The tree will be decorated with items made by Carey schoolchildren.

All activities will be free, but donations will be accepted for the Carey Food Pantry and Toys for Children program.

A tree-lighting ceremony at John Carey Park gazebo will be held about 5:15 p.m. Friday, with Mayor John Rymer flipping the switch.

Members of the Carey Kiwanis Club will lead singing of Christmas carols during the ceremony. The event will be held after the arrival of Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be in the back room of the Carey American Legion Hall, 201 E. Findlay St. Cookies and punch will be available there.

Photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be available for a $1 donation.

Seasonal music will be performed from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 229 E. Findlay St., with performances by the Carey High School choir, Tammy Wyatt, Leah Fletcher and Corey Pahl.

Horse and wagon rides, for a donation, will be available from Grace United Methodist Church parking lot, 301 E. Findlay St.

The Carey Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will have a fire pit near the gazebo, with marshmallows for roasting.

A bake sale will be held at 5 p.m. at Carey Senior Depot, 200 E. Findlay St. Proceeds will be donated to the Carey Food Pantry/Toys for Children program. Organizations or individuals who would like to donate baked goods for the sale should take them to the depot between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Friday.

Children will be able to make seasonal crafts at Dorcas Carey Public Library, 236 E. Findlay St., and at other downtown business locations.

A craft and vendor sale will be held at 105 E. Findlay St., the building next to Harry's Pharmacy. Space may reserved for displays by contacting Angel Tackett, director of the Carey Area Chamber of Commerce, at 419-250-1295.

Tackett sent letters to Carey businesses and organizations seeking participants.

Volunteers are needed for the craft tables, the bake sale, the tree decorating, and other activities. Businesses and volunteers who want to participate should contact Tackett.

A "Trees of the Season" display will be raffled at 8:15 p.m. Friday at Moreno's Casual Dining banquet room, 109 W. Findlay St.

Individuals must be present to win a decorated tree, done by Carey businesses for the Christmas in Carey festivities.

Participants should get a free scavenger hunt card from any Carey Distributive Education Clubs of America/Carey Marketing Club member at the event; have the card stamped at participating businesses; and return the card to Moreno's.

For businesses wanting to participate, or for more information, contact Tackett at 419-250-1295 or 419-396-7071, or Kara Ward at Moreno's, 419-306-4221.
