Findlay High roundup: Trojans fall to Dublin Coffman
Findlay did everything well except finish off goals, and Dublin Coffman escaped with a 2-1 non-conference win over the Trojans on Saturday at The Cube.
Mark Roepke scored a quick power-play goal for Findlay at the 10:10 mark of the first period.
But after that, the game belonged to Shamrock goalkeeper Alex Rogers, who made 31 saves on 32 Findlay shots.
With most the action taking place on the Coffman (14-2) side of the ice, a few lapses by Findlay (5-5-1) proved to be the difference.
Matt Smith scored on a slap shot from the blue line with 4:32 left in the second period and Gunner Gruehl added the game-winning goal less than a minute later.
Findlay will be back in action next weekend as the Trojans will host the Findlay Invitational.
Findlay will battle Olentangy at 7 p.m. Saturday and Maumee at 7 Sunday.
Findlay 1-9 at BG Duals
BOWLING GREEN -- Findlay High wrestlers Mike Alexander and Max Gladstone posted unbeaten records Friday and Saturday in the Bowling Green Duals.
Gladstone went 10-0 in the heavyweight division of the tournament. He won nine of his 10 matches by pin, the other by forfeit.
Alexander went 7-0 in the 171-pound class. His seventh match of the meet was a victory over Mayfield's Tylan Coleman, who placed fourth in last year's Division I state tournament. Alexander and Coleman bumped heads during the match, opening a gash above Alexander's eye.
Alexander completed the match with Coleman, and earned the victory, but did not take part in Findlay's final three matches after getting stitches to close the wound.
Sid Jones, wrestling at 125, and Jordan Fenton, who competed at both 160 and 171, both went 7-3 for the Trojans.

Jillian Bendt, a returning state qualifier for the Trojans, was first on the uneven bars (8.7) and finished third in the all-around competition (34.2). Alexis Maloney was second on bars (8.4) and fifth in the all-around (32.65).
