Boys basketball: Findlay hosts Toledo Scott tonight
Findlay High's boys basketball team, coming off a solid win over Bowling Green, will cap a three-game homestand today when the Trojans host Toledo Scott (0-3) in a non-league contest.
The Trojans (2-1) rebounded from last Friday's 57-51 Greater Buckeye Conference loss to Marion Harding by building an early lead and holding off Bowling Green, the preseason pick to win the Northern Lakes League, 69-63 Saturday. C.J. Gettys, a 6-foot-10 sophomore, had 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Justin Richter added 14 points and Brock Ammons 13 for the Trojans.
A year ago, Findlay got clutch free throws from Luke Kraus in the final seconds to escape with a 45-43 win over Scott. The Bulldogs graduated 10 players from that 7-14 team, but have 10 seniors on this year's roster and good size, including 6-5 senior wing Deshawn Lee, 6-8 senior center Austen Alabata, a move-in from Bryan, and 6-6 junior forward Mike Jones.
The Bulldogs are averaging 66 points a game, but are allowing 78.3 after losses to Youngstown Ursuline (66-53), Toledo Rogers (84-67) and West Carrolton (85-78).
Findlay returns to GBC action Friday when the Trojans travel to Fremont Ross.
Fostoria Review Times sports editor Scott Cottos joined Courier sports reporters Jamie Baker and Dave Hanneman to talk about four key games coming up in Week 2.
