Courthouse

Common Pleas Court

The following activity took place in Hancock County Common Pleas Court:

Jessica J. Vandeneynde, 20, of Forest, was convicted by Judge Reg Routson of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony) and two counts of trafficking in drugs (both fifth-degree felonies). Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 1. Vandeneynde was one of 14 people charged following an undercover investigation known as "Operation Clean Sweep" which culminated in August. She was charged with being associated with an enterprise involved in the sale and distribution of cocaine in Hancock County between January 2006 and March 2008, and with selling cocaine on two occasions in July 2007. She is the first defendant from the ring to be convicted.

David A. Detrick, 30, of Dayton, was sentenced to 11 months in prison by Judge Routson on convictions for receiving stolen property (fourth-degree felony) and theft (fifth-degree felony). The charges resulted from two indictments filed earlier this year. In the first, Detrick was charged with possessing stolen welders, water heaters and a generator in Marion Township on Dec. 23. In the second, he was charged with stealing three computers from a Findlay Wal-Mart, also on Dec. 23. He pleaded guilty to both charges in June.

Christopher M. Trumpet, 35, address unknown, was placed on probation for two years by Judge Routson after being convicted of passing bad checks (first-degree misdemeanor). Trumpet was indicted on a fifth-degree felony charge after writing a $3,650 check to a local man in July 2007, knowing the check would be dishonored. The charge was reduced as part of a plea bargain. He was ordered to make restitution to the crime victim and will have to serve 90 days in the county jail if he violates probation.

Shelia A. Howard, 38, of Findlay, was convicted of misuse of credit cards (third-degree felony); identity fraud (fifth-degree felony); and four counts of illegal processing of drug documents (each a fourth-degree felony). She will be sentenced by Judge Routson on Dec. 1. Howard was indicted for using personal identifying information, the name and address, of a woman on April 18, and with obtaining between $5,000 and $100,000 in property by fraudulently using the same woman's MasterCard account in March and April. The drug charges resulted when the defendant forged prescriptions for Adderall, a drug used primarily to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy, and passed them at pharmacies in Findlay earlier this year.

Incumbent Daniel R. Ellerbrock has secured his position on the board, earning 685 votes. However the remaining trustee spot will require a recount as Gery P. Wurth earned 598 votes and Mark J. Kahle collected 601 votes, according to official results.

An automatic recount is necessary if the margin is within one-half of 1 percent of total votes cast, according to state law.
