Docket

The following incidents were reported to the Findlay Police Department and the Hancock County Sheriff's Office:

Police Department

Three tires were slashed on a Chevy Monte Carlo on Friday at 438 Cherry St.

A male on Friday said three men took his shoes, cell phone and money from a room at Findlay Motel, 820 Tiffin Ave.

An attempted break-in took place recently at Scarbrough Pharmacy, 1809 S. Main St.

An unlawful entry was noted Friday at 422 Eben Ave.

A male was in trouble Wednesday for playing loud music at 947 Morse St., Apt. 1 A.

Tools and car parts were taken from a garage at 214½ Western Ave. on Wednesday.

A Findlay man on Wednesday said someone made unauthorized purchases on his debit card.

A male, later found to be wanted under a Tiffin warrant, was caught trying to shoplift a case of soda and three cases of beer Wednesday from the Trenton Avenue Wal-Mart.

A mountain bike was purloined Wednesday from 510 W. Main Cross St.

Hit-skip traffic incidents were reported Wednesday at 1410 W. Main Cross St. and 1800 Tiffin Ave.

Four youths were detained for causing a Wednesday ruckus at the Findlay Village Mall.

An inebriated South Main Street person was in custody Wednesday for domestic violence after striking a family member.

Windows were shattered Thursday at Longberry's Paint Store, 217 Broadway.

A laptop computer which was to be delivered to 219 N. Blanchard St. reportedly was missing Thursday.

A theft charge was requested against a city male who stole his ex-girlfriend's cell phone at 204 Ellis Ave.

Six bags of sidewalk salt were swiped Friday outside the Great Scot grocery store on Broad Avenue.

Sheriff's Office

A rural Fostoria woman was ticketed Tuesday for failing to control her Chevy Camaro, which hit a patch of ice and slid into a tree off Hancock County 18, south of Hancock County 216.

Three area males were admonished Thursday for hunting from railroad tracks on Allen Township 142, near Allen Township 107.

The following people were sentenced in Findlay Municipal Court:

Ryan K. Patterson, 819 W. Sandusky St., petty theft; $250 fine, 30 jail days with 27 suspended.

Robert R. Martin, 1729 Foraker Ave., domestic violence; $250 fine, 30 jail days with 27 suspended.

Edward N. Molina, 412 E. Pearl St., no operator's license (NOL); $50 fine.

Anna D. Torres, 130½ Monroe Ave., assault; $350 fine, 30 jail days.

Jase A. Wisner, 424 Scarlet Oak Drive, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a vehicle while under the influence (OVI), reckless operation of vehicle; $1,550 fine, 60 jail days with 40 suspended, license suspended 366 days.

Caner Yildiz, 1133 Brookside Drive, reckless operation of vehicle; $150 fine.

Jeffery F. Combs, Alger, driving under suspension (DUS) and NOL; $400 fine, 90 jail days with 60 suspended, license suspended 181 days.

Sarah E. Heuerman, 331 Frazer St., sale to underage person; $500 fine.

Thereasa J. Terry, 8250 Oakwood Drive, passing a stopped school bus; $150 fine.

Andrew A. Harlow, 808 Country Creek Drive, speed; $250 fine, three jail days suspended.

James R. Petrie, 2201 W. Sandusky St., Nathan L. Varney, 529 E. Lincoln St., both for OVI; $375 fines, 30 jail days with 23 suspended, licenses suspended 366 days.

Trent A. Weiker, rural Findlay, OVI; $450 fine, 30 jail days with 20 suspended, license suspended 366 days.

News Briefs Firefighters discover 20 marijuana plants in house
After fighting a house fire early Monday at 815 Howard St., firefighters found 20 marijuana plants in the residence.

"They ran across it and called us," said police Sgt. Justin Hendren with the Hancock County METRICH Drug Enforcement Unit.

Police seized all 20 plants, and Hendren said charges are pending.

High-powered growing lights, fans, and a box filled with dried marijuana were also found in the house, according to a police report.

Investigators said an electrical short started the fire before 3 a.m. Monday.

The blaze caused an estimated $12,000 in damage to the residence, owned by Amanda Crawford. No one was injured, according to the Findlay Fire Department.


Carey announces holiday closing
CAREY -- Carey offices, including administrative, income tax and utilities, electric, wastewater treatment plant, and public works, will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

The curbside recycling program will be held Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 7-9.


Findlay trooper named sergeant
Trooper Jacob L. Fletcher, assigned to the Findlay post of the State Highway Patrol, was promoted to sergeant Wednesday by Patrol Superintendent Col. David Dicken.

With the promotion, Fletcher will stay at the Findlay post and serve as an assistant post commander, according to the patrol.

Fletcher began his patrol career in 2002 after graduating from the 139th Academy class and has been assigned to the Findlay post since.


Owens announces holiday schedule
The Toledo and Findlay campuses of Owens Community College will be closed Saturday through Monday for the Labor Day holiday.

There will be no classes and the college offices will be closed.

Classes will resume and offices will open again on Tuesday.


Holiday changes ad deadlines
The Courier won't be published on Monday, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Because of the holiday, some advertising deadlines have been moved up this week:

Black and white display advertising for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by noon Friday. Display advertising for Wednesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Color display advertising for the Thursday, Sept. 9 newspaper must be placed by Friday.

Classified advertising and City and Country advertising for Saturday's newspaper must be placed by 2 p.m. Friday. Classified ads for Tuesday's newspaper must be placed by 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Courier business and advertising offices will close at 3 p.m. Friday for the holiday.
