Hancock Park District sponsoring Dayton trip

Legacy
An overnight trip to Dayton to view parks and historical buildings and learn about the city's aviation history, will be held Sept. 17-18.

The trip is sponsored by Hancock Friends of the Parks.

On the first day, participants will visit Carillon Historical Park, home to the Wright Flyer III, the state's largest carillon, and Cox Arboretum & Gardens, part of Five Rivers Metroparks. A tram will be used to tour the specialty gardens.

On the second day, participants will tour the restored Hoover Block, part of the National Parks Service, which includes the Wright Brothers' bicycle business and printing businesses.

Also included will be a tour of Paul Laurence Dunbar's residence. He was editor of the Wright Brothers' early publications.

There will also be stops at the Packard Museum and the Bicycle Museum in New Bremen.

Cost is $175 per person, which includes all meals. Payment is due July 1. Space is limited.

News Briefs Offices in Carey closed for holiday
CAREY — Carey offices, including administrative, income tax and utilities, electric, wastewater treatment plant, and public works, will be closed today and Monday for the Fourth of July holiday.

The recycling program will be Tuesday through Thursday next week.

In case of emergency, contact the police department at 419-396-7678.


Library closed
FOREST — The Forest-Jackson Public Library will be closed today in observation of the Fourth of July.

The card catalog is available at www.forestlibrary.oplin.org.


No newspaper on Friday
The Courier won't be published today, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

All newspaper offices will be closed today except the newsroom, which will begin working on Saturday's newspaper at 5 p.m. today.

Other Courier offices will resume regular operations at 8 a.m. Monday.

During the holiday weekend, Courier subscribers who have a question or complaint about newspaper delivery may call the circulation department at 419-422-5158 and leave a voice mail message.
