All-NW Ohio Girls: Smith and Irwin are voted top coaches

Two coaches who led their state-ranked teams to perfect league records and the players who helped make it all possible headline the Associated Press all-Northwest Ohio girls basketball selections released Thursday.
Fostoria St. Wendelin head coach Aaron Smith, who guided the Mohawks to a 20-0 regular- season record and a 10-0 run through the Midland Athletic League was Northwest Ohio's coach of the year in Division IV. Liberty-Benton's Nate Irwin, who led the 18-2 Eagles to a 9-0 showing in the Blanchard Valley Conference, earned the same honor in Division III.
Both coaches had first-team all-Northwest Ohio players leading their teams
St. Wendelin's Dani Papenfus in Division IV and Liberty-Benton's Amanda Hyde in Divsion III receiving top honors. Papenfus, a 5-foot-3 senior guard, averaged 13.8 points a game in a balanced St. Wendelin offense. Hyde, a 5-8 sophomore, averaged 16.8 points and was deadly accurate, making 61 percent of her 2-point attempts and converting 86 percent of her free throws.
Papenfus and Hyde headlined a talented group of area players recognized in voting by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
Riverdale, a regional qualifier for the second straight year, had two all-Northwest Ohio selections in Division III. Kayla Brown, a 5-9 junior who averaged 13.8 points and 6.3 rebounds a game, was named first team and senior Kristi Kotterman, who averaged 11.5 points and 5.9 assist, was named third team.
Elmwood's Brooke Morgart, a two-time Suburban Lakes League Player of the Year who averaged 15.2 points a game, was also a first team selection in Division II, Bluffton's Amanda Stratton (18 ppg, 8.4 rpg) was named to the second team, and Liberty-Benton's Erica Williman (11.3 ppg) landed a third-team spot.
Joining Papenfus on the Division IV first team were New Riegel's Jackie Reinhart (10.1 ppg) and 6-0 Ottoville center Gina Beining (10.3 ppg).
Van Buren's Paige Faine (17.7 ppg, 6.1 rpg), Pandora-Gilboa's Jessica Lehman (12.2 ppg) and Ada's Kara Dysert (16.2 ppg, 10.5 rpg) were second-team selections, while Carey's Karrah Windau (16.6 ppg), Leipsic's Jessica Schroeder (13.2 ppg) and St. Wendelin's Lauren Geroski (12.0) earned third-team berths.
Three area players were recognized in Division II.
Upper Sandusky's Clare Aubrey, a University of Toledo signee with almost 1,500 career points, was voted to the first team, Ottawa-Glandorf's Brittany Kiracofe (12 ppg) earned a second-team spot and Fostoria's Aja Hall, who averaged a double-double (18.6 ppg, 12.1 rpg), was a third-team selection.
