Two coaches who led their state-ranked teams to perfect league records and the players who helped make it all possible headline the Associated Press all-Northwest Ohio girls basketball selections released Thursday.

Fostoria St. Wendelin head coach Aaron Smith, who guided the Mohawks to a 20-0 regular- season record and a 10-0 run through the Midland Athletic League was Northwest Ohio's coach of the year in Division IV. Liberty-Benton's Nate Irwin, who led the 18-2 Eagles to a 9-0 showing in the Blanchard Valley Conference, earned the same honor in Division III.

Both coaches had first-team all-Northwest Ohio players leading their teams

St. Wendelin's Dani Papenfus in Division IV and Liberty-Benton's Amanda Hyde in Divsion III receiving top honors. Papenfus, a 5-foot-3 senior guard, averaged 13.8 points a game in a balanced St. Wendelin offense. Hyde, a 5-8 sophomore, averaged 16.8 points and was deadly accurate, making 61 percent of her 2-point attempts and converting 86 percent of her free throws.

Papenfus and Hyde headlined a talented group of area players recognized in voting by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
