Open enrollment applications available soon at area schools

Several area schools are offering information and applications about open enrollment.

In Fostoria, an informational meeting about open enrollment will be held 4 p.m. April 24 at Holmes Administration Building, 500 Parkway Drive, Fostoria.

Applications for open enrollment to Fostoria schools for 2008-2009 school year will be available April 28 in all district buildings. Applications may be returned to any district building between May 1-31. Decisions will be made by June 15.

Open enrollment allows any Ohio student to apply for an inter-district transfer to attend Fostoria schools tuition free.

Any parent or guardian with questions should contact the administration building, 419-435-8163.

The Arcadia School District will accept inter-district open enrollment applications for the 2008-09 school year from May 1 through May 23.

Applications may be picked up at any school office between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applications must be submitted to the superintendent's office by the May 23 deadline.

Parents whose students already attend Arcadia Schools through open enrollment must also reapply each year within this time period.

Open enrollment applications for Carey schools will be accepted May 1-31 at the superintendent's office.

Parents whose students already attend Carey schools under the program, have to reapply annually during May.

News Briefs Work scheduled on Findlay streets
Findlay's Main Street, northbound, will be reduced at times to one lane between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for waterline connection.

Main Street will not be accessible from East Lincoln Street. Lincoln Street will be closed to through traffic from South Main Street to South Blanchard Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for continued improvement work. Access to local businesses and residents only will be maintained.

Recount planned in trustee's race
OTTAWA -- After certifying election results on Wednesday, the Putnam County Board of Elections has announced a recount will be required for the Union Township trustee race, according to Deputy Director Shelly Burkhart.

The recount will be completed on Wednesday at the county elections board office, 336 E. Main Street, Ottawa.

Incumbent Daniel R. Ellerbrock has secured his position on the board, earning 685 votes. However the remaining trustee spot will require a recount as Gery P. Wurth earned 598 votes and Mark J. Kahle collected 601 votes, according to official results.

An automatic recount is necessary if the margin is within one-half of 1 percent of total votes cast, according to state law.

Road to be closed
Forest Lake Drive, between Marion Township 237 and Indian Lake Drive/Forest Lane, will be closed today for a pipe installation.

The road is expected to open by 5 p.m., weather permitting.

Motorists are advised to use Township 242.
