News Briefs IHOP blaze may have been arson
The State Fire Marshal's Office, with the help of the Findlay police and fire departments, is investigating the IHOP Restaurant fire earlier this month as an arson case.

Someone forced entry into the business at 7777 Hancock County 236 before the blaze, according to Hancock County Crime Stoppers. Two males were also seen running south away from the restaurant.

The Aug. 11 fire started in the dining area at about 12:11 a.m. It caused $300,000 in damage. The restaurant was gutted by the fire and will reopen in four to six months.

Anyone with information regarding this incident can call Crime Stoppers at 419-425-8477, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Anyone who provides information about this or any other crime that leads to an arrest or indictment may be eligible for a cash reward.


Rural break-ins reported Tuesday
Three break-ins and one attempted break-in occurred in the southern part of the county Tuesday.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Office is investigating the daytime crimes, but it is not yet known if the incidents are related.

Money was stolen during a burglary at 19259 Orange Township 56, Bluffton, between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Money was also taken during a break-in at 22241 U.S. 68 prior to 3:41 p.m. Tuesday.

A plasma television was stolen during a burglary that occurred at 8113 Hancock County 304, Forest, sometime prior to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Entry was attempted at 20471 Orange Township 56, Bluffton, prior to 4 p.m. Tuesday. A dog at the residence may have prevented entry to the home.


Buzz Sutherland to perform at UF
The University of Findlay will host comedian Buzz Sutherland at 8 p.m. Friday in the Alumni Memorial Union. Admission is $1 at the door or free for UF students with a valid student ID.

Sutherland, who will perform a family-friendly show, was named Comedian of the Year by the National Association of Campus Activities five times, Entertainer of the Year by that same group and Comedian of the Year four times.

He has performed on HBO's Comic Relief and MTV's Half Hour Comedy Show.

Owens to close for Labor Day holiday
Owens Community College Findlay campus will be closed Aug. 30 - Sept. 1 for the Labor Day holiday. There will be no classes and college offices will be closed.

Classes will resume and college offices will open again on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
